LS&T researcher scoops SMAANZ student research prize
12 February 2010
Dr Daniel Lock from LS&T was selected as the Sport Management Association of Australian and New Zealand’s top student researcher of 2009 for his Doctoral Thesis completed at UTS.
The thesis, which explored the formation and development of new team identification via a case study of Sydney FCs’ fan base, received excellent reviews from the international assessment committee. In particular, the theoretically based - practical outcomes, which were disseminated back to both Sydney FC and the Football Federation Australia were seen as considerable strength of the thesis process.
With the award Dr Lock was awarded $1500 travel expenses to present at next year’s SMAANZ conference in Wellington, NZ, an invitation to submit an article on the thesis outcomes to Sport Management Review and a commemorative plaque to acknowledge the award. Daniel's supervisors were Tracy Taylor and Simon Darcy.
