The Sydney Institute of Marine Science Foundation is offering three-year SIMS Scholarships to post-graduate students in any discipline of marine science as additional support to students who have received an offer of, or who already hold an APA, APAI, international or equivalent scholarship at an
Australian university. The work must be undertaken substantially at SIMS and/or make use of SIMS facilities in conjunction with a host university.
The SIMS Scholarships are for twelve thousand five hundred dollars ($12,500) each year for up to three years, beginning in 2012, paid at the beginning of
each year, and may be used for research, travel or living expenses.
An applicant must state clearly what the funds are requested for, and provide a supporting letter from their supervisor. Applicants should in addition
provide a description (one page) of their project with their application,and a one page CV.
Students beginning their PhD program, or who have completed no more than one year of their candidature, are eligible. The Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis, with recipients chosen by the SIMS Foundation Research Committee. Scholars will provide annual progress reports on their research to the Committee, and are expected to give one presentation per year to the public. Funding in the second and third years of the Scholarships is subject tonsatisfactory progress having been achieved in the previous year(s).
