CenSoC now a Key UTS University Research Centre

Some fantastic news to share with you! At the UTS University Research Management Committee this afternoon it was agreed to ratify a proposal that the Centre for Study of Choice (CenSoc) become a Key UTS University Research Centre (KURC) shared between the UTS: Business Faculty and UTS: Science Faculty. Thanks to our PVC Research, Professor Sue Rowley, for her active support and encouragement in making this happen.

This is terrific recognition of the outstanding research and development work done by Jordan Louviere as a co-director in conjunction with his colleague and co-director Deborah Street and their research team, in particular members of the UTS: School of Marketing. When he arrives in July our new Federation Fellow and Distinguished Research Professor Mike Keane will also become a co-director of the Centre.

CenSoc, which until now has been a Faculty of Business Research Strength, has as its aim to better understand and predict individual and group decisions and the choice processes this involves for managers, organizations and consumers. CenSoc has an outstanding research track record with significant research funding, hauling in over $6.8m between 2002-2005, 65 DEST-recognized publications and some 16 doctoral completions. The Centre works in conjunction with a range of high profile industry partners including Motorola and Boeing.

I am sure you will join with me in congratulating Jordan and his colleagues on this recognition by the wider UTS research community of the excellent work that they are doing.

Kind regards,
Professor Ian Palmer
