Biography
Perry has a strong mix of research, teaching, academic, managerial and practical experience obtained in the construction industry over a 29 year period. His experience stems from initiation at trade level followed by senior management positions in design, construction, estimating, project management and professional consultancy organisations.

He has advised many leading companies and government bodies both within Australia and overseas on construction efficiency, building technology issues, construction estimating, product development, software development and management systems. He has been a central figure in the development of new building systems relating to concrete raft slab construction, cladding systems, plywood box beams, suspended timber floor construction and noise/fire resistant timber framed construction.

Perry has also been centrally involved in the development of a leading cost estimating software package, a web database of international innovations in the delivery of residential buildings, a web based information system on construction development requirements in bushfire prone areas, a web based learning tool on termite risk management and a wide variety of construction handbooks and guides.

Perry's core research interests include: modern methods of construction, timber construction, supply side issues effecting housing affordability, lean construction, quality management, customer satisfaction, waste management, and sustainability issues. Coupled with this, Perry has received a number of awards, the most recent being the Australian Institute of Building's Chapter Medal, for his PhD thesis on service quality in the construction sector. He has published widely including over 44 articles in both academic, educational and industry publications.

Read New Head of the UTS School of the Built Environment has focus on industry and research.
