Bachelor of Arts in Communication (Journalism) (Honors)

Tanya Plibersek

Federal Member for Sydney
Minister for Human Services
Minister for Social Inclusion

I enjoyed my time at UTS studying journalism as much for the people I met as the formal course content. The people who taught me had industry experience and a broad world view that excited and challenged me. When I started the course I was keen to have a career as a journalist, and even though fate took me along other paths, the communication skills I learnt have served me well. After finishing my honours degree I worked for the state government doing research and writing publications on domestic violence. I was elected to the federal parliament as the member for Sydney in 1998 and became Minister for Housing and Minister for the Status of Women with the election of the Labor Government, and now serve as Minister for Human Services and Minister for Social Inclusion.
