Yasmin Askari is from Tehran, the capital of Iran. Yasmin studied and completed the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Diploma in Information Technology Profession Practice.
“Even though there are quite a few good universities in my home country which provide high quality education, I chose to come and study in Australia to taste a different lifestyle and gain new experiences. Sydney is one of the best places that I have ever been and I believe all the attractions and the nice weather make it a great place to live.
I chose to study at UTS for its reputation, convenient location and the quality of the education they offer. Many large and well-known organisations choose UTS students for internships and employ UTS graduates so that was a major deciding factor in choosing to come to UTS.
I had already completed some prior study in IT and so I wanted to continue my studies in this area. What attracted me to the IT industry was the broad range of career paths available. The degree at UTS allows me to specialise in the areas I am interested in but still provides a broad foundation with the compulsory subjects. I decided to major in Internetworking and Applications and do a sub-major in Business Information Systems Management.
One of the best things at UTS is having the opportunity to undertake an internship as part of the course, with the Diploma in IT Professional Practice. It was through this program that I was able to discover more about the different jobs in the IT industry. When I discovered the role of business analyst I realised it encompassed all my interests and was the perfect choice for me. This opportunity has really opened up my horizons and cemented my career plan. Being able to work as part of the course and experience a real work environment has been so beneficial for me.
I was lucky enough to be offered a contractor position after my internship and I am now currently working as a contractor business analyst at MLC. I would like to continue with the same organisation after finishing off the last semester of my degree and gain more and more experience.”
