UTS Open Day - Engineering and IT: Revolving Robotics Arena

At UTS Engineering and IT, we are the world leaders in the urban search and rescue, assistive, outdoor navigation, infrastructure maintenance and physical human robot interaction fields. See some of our robots up close in our revolving robotics arena, including an exclusive viewing of Australia's only PR2, the Personal Robot that can interact and communicate with mobile phones, buildings and people.

What's on at the Revolving Robotics Arena

Students' Short Animation Films
Time: 9:00am-10:00am

Come to the "Revolving Robotics Arena" in Building 10 and watch some animated films from past and current UTS students. UTS:IT is proud of its many graduates who have gone on to very successful careers in the animation and movie special effects industry. For instance, seven of our graduates worked on the Academy Award winning Happy Feet, and a number of graduates have had credits on films winning Academy Awards for special effects, such as King Kong and Avatar.

The Flying Video Game - Learn about Mechatronics
Time: 10:00am-10:20am

A flying machine you can control with your mobile phone? Yes please! See the AR Drone Quadricopter in action, and learn about a degree in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering from one of our Research Engineers in the Centre for Autonomous Systems.

Artificial Intelligence and Smart Wheelchairs
Time: 10:30-11:15am

Witness first-hand a wheelchair that has been designed for impaired people who are unable to use their hands to manoeuvre an electric wheelchair. This wheelchair is able to read brainwave messages and can move around based on what the brain directs it to do. It requires no physical motions from the person sitting in the chair.

PR2 - The Future of Robotics
Time: 11:30-11:50am
Mobility, dexterity, intelligence. The PR2 is an amazing Personal Robot. And UTS is the owner of Australia's only PR2. Catch your exclusive viewing of the future of robotics with this robot that can interact and communicate with mobile phones, buildings and people.

Rescue Robotics
Time: 2:00pm-2:20pm

At UTS Engineering and IT, we are the world leaders in the urban search and rescue, assistive, outdoor navigation and infrastructure maintenance fields. Learn about mobile robotics engineering with the PackBot, a robot originally designed for military use, but now with multiple industry applications.
