The UTS Broadway Building project team prepares for the next phase: excavation.
Now the project team has gained planning approval for the excavation, a staff forum will be held on 14 April to update those due to be impacted most by the excavation works (notably those in Building 10 and Building 2). This information will also be available on the project website after 18 April.
A project application for the construction of the building was lodged with NSW Department of Planning on 16 March 2011 and public advertising will continue until 15 April 2011.
Site set up for the excavation is due to start late May with bulk excavation expected to start around June with noisier rock excavation expected in about August.
RECENT WORKS
- Approval from NSW Department of Planning for the bulk excavation of the site was received on 15 March 2011.
- The project application has been lodged with the NSW Department of Planning [opens external site]. Under the previous "Part 3A" planning process, this initial application is known as a "pre-lodgement application" or a "test of adequacy". UTS is awaiting advice from the NSW Government with regards to the new planning process, recently announced by Premier Barry O'Farrell.
UPCOMING WORKS
- An effective 'double glazing' solution for the Building 10 facade facing onto Broadway is scheduled for installation late April. More information will be provided at the staff forum on 14 April and on the project website from 18 April.
- Tenders for the excavation have now been received and a contractor will soon be appointed.
