BUILDING 6 PODIUM EXTENSION

Podium extension for DAB Building 6

SUMMARY:
- Detailed design due to be complete end of June
- Parts of Building 6 are now being closed ahead of demolition and construction works
- The project will be complete by February 2012

The podium extentsion of Building 6 will provide new teaching and learning spaces located underneath the new Student Housing Tower.

The detailed design should be complete by the end of June with construction works starting shortly thereafter. The design has been developed by architects Gardner Wetherill in close consultation with UTS and the Faculty of Design, Architecture & Building.

The UTS community will be able to see the approved design in the near future and a forum on the upcoming works and likely impact will be held for DAB staff mid July. More information on the forum will be provided to DAB staff in the next couple of weeks.

CURRENT DEMOLITION & CONSTRUCTION WORKS
A number of areas on the northern side of Building 6 (facing the Ultimo Pedestrian Network) have recently been closed to allow for strip-out and demolition works ahead of construction in the second half of the year. Other parts of the building will soon follow.

Most closed areas will be offline until completion of the fitout in February 2012.

Level 3
Guthrie Theatre will remain operational until mid June when it will then close until the end of July.
Some demolition work in other parts of the podium.

Level 4
Hoardings are in place until February 2012.

Level 5
Former finance area of the Dean’s Unit is now closed with demolition work underway.
Affected staff have relocated to level 6.

Level 6
School of architecture staff are currently being relocated ahead of demolition works.

Level 7
Design studios will remain open for the near future. A temporary closure date will be confirmed as part of the construction programming.
