A new approach to transport planning: Integrated resource planning (IRP) is a methodology for assessing the relative costs and benefits of options to provide infrastructure services, mainly applied in the energy and water sectors. It compares options for increasing supply through, for example, new dams or desalination plants, with options for reducing demand such as repairing leakage and retrofitting toilets.
Ferncourt Public School crowned climate champion: At its end of year presentation on 9 December, Ferncourt Public School received the inaugural Climate Clubs Cup in a competition that applied Australians' love of sport to community climate change action.
Vision 2040: The Mineral Futures Vision 2040 workshop, facilitated by futurist Dr Sohail Inyatullah in Brisbane recently, brought together a range of mine industry stakeholders to deliberate on ways the minerals industry can best deliver sustainable long term benefit for Australia. The workshop was run by the Institute as part of the Minerals Futures Collaboration Cluster program of research that is examining how the benefits and impacts of mineral resource extraction and processing in Australia are changing.
THINKK launch: THINKK, a new and innovative think tank established by UTS to undertake independent research on kangaroos was officially launched on Tuesday 30 November.
