Australia’s untapped energy resource: The Prime Minister’s Task Group on Energy Efficiency this month released its report on options to improve Australia’s energy efficiency by 2020. The Task Group sought expert advice from a broad range of government, industry, energy and environmental organizations including commissioning research by the Institute for Sustainable Futures. It also considered some 200 submissions from interested parties.
Kinglake West sustainable sewerage project: The considerable expertise in sustainable sanitation systems developed by researchers at the Institute in recent years has led to an invitation to undertake social research in relation to a trial of alternative sewerage services in the community of Kinglake West being conducted by Yarra Valley Water (YVW).
Doctorate awarded for research into sustainable procurement: A PhD in Sustainable Futures was awarded to Suzanne Grob at the UTS Spring graduation ceremony this month. Suzanne’s thesis provides valuable new insights into how to accelerate sustainability considerations in organisational procurement.
Carbon calculator for event managers: A free carbon calculator that measures the carbon footprint of events of all sizes, held anywhere in the world was reviewed by ISF researchers before it went live on the Australian Centre for Event Management’s (ACEM) web site
Vision 2040: Innovation in mining and minerals: Vision 2040 is a free event on 14 & 15 November at Customs House in Brisbane organised by the Institute for Sustainable Futures as part of a three year Mineral Futures Collaboration Cluster program of research.
UTS Human Rights Award: The Institute congratulates Jessica Minshall and her colleagues at 2SER who won the Creative Media Social Justice Award at the 2010 UTS Human Rights Awards on Wednesday 20 October.
