Biography

Dr Chris Riedy has more than fourteen years experience as a researcher, consultant and author on sustainability policy. Chris has particular expertise in energy policy, climate change response and social change initiatives. He works as a facilitator and change agent to help deliver personal, organisational, systemic and cultural responses to sustainability challenges. Most recently, for the Queensland Premier’s Council on Climate Change, he led a major review of behaviour change theory and practice that recommended a suite of policy measures for the Queensland Government to implement to meet its household greenhouse gas reduction targets. Other noteworthy projects include the development of a Climate Change Action Plan for the University of Technology, Sydney, the World Wide Views on Global Warming project to give Australian citizens a voice in international climate change negotiations, the Carbon Offset Watch project to provide consumers with independent advice on the voluntary carbon market and research on energy and transport subsidies in Australia for Greenpeace. Chris has made strong research contributions to the fields of integral theory, foresight and sustainability science. He contributed to a special issue of Futures on Integral Futures (vol 40, Issue 2) which was voted one of the three most important futures works of 2008 by the Association of Professional Futurists. He also co-edited a special issue of Foresight on the state of play in the futures field in 2009. His doctoral research explored behavioural, systemic, psychological, cultural and developmental perspectives on climate change response in Australia and proposed new participatory policy responses. His thesis was included on the 2005 UTS Chancellor's List, which recognises outstanding achievement in a PhD thesis and was published as a book in 2007. Chris is currently supervising five PhD students and one Masters (Research) student. He is the President of the Climate Action Network Australia and a member of the Reference Group for the Energy and Water Consumers Advocacy Project.
