QCIS Seminar: Design of E-experiment platform in an E-laboratory - Prof Yaping Dai, Beijing Institute of Technology, China

Presented by Prof Yaping Da, Beijing Institute of Technology, China (invited by Prof Jie Lu)

Abstract:  A Unified Architecture for an Internet-Based Networked Control Laboratory (E-Lab) is proposed that provides a multifunction platform for undergraduate students, postgraduates, doctor candidates and researchers to study and research remote automatic control via the Internet . In an E-Lab, one can operate remote equipment, share devices, and upload algorithms to do E-experiments on the website of our E-Lab. E-Lab is based on hybrid software architecture and combines a Client/Server and Browser/Server, which supplies users with a friendly, human-machine interface and uniform manners to access equipment. The research results also provide a useful platform for researchers to carry out cooperative studies, and facilitate educational activities through the internet.

Brief Bio:  Prof Yaping Dai received her PhD from the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) in 1994. After graduation, she worked at BIT as a lecturer from 1994 to 1997, and as an Associate Professor from 1997 to 2002. From 1998 to 1999, she studied and worked at Kyushu University as a visiting researcher. She became a Professor at BIT in 2002. In 2005, she visited Tokyo Institute of Technology as visiting researcher for six months. In 2007, she received sustentation funding from Waseda University, where she worked for a month. In 2010, she visited the University of Virginia for three months as a visiting researcher. Currently, Prof Dai is Professor with the School of Automation at Beijing Institute of Technology, and Director of the “Joint Laboratory for Remote Control”. Her research interests lie in the areas of Networked Control, Internet of Things, and E-experiments. She has published one translated book and more than 80 papers in journals and conferences, and has won “quality course certification” from the Beijing Municipal Education Commission. She serves as a Vice-Chief-Director for the Beijing Automation Association, and as Editor for the Journal of Advanced Computational Intelligence and Intelligent Informatics.
