The Centre for Midwifery Child and Family Health and the Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Health were well represented at the recent national midwifery conference, themed "Big, Bold and Beautiful", held in September 2007 in Canberra. Staff and students, including Pat Brodie, Nicky Leap, Maralyn Foureur, Hannah Dahlen, Ali Teate, Katie Sullivan, Rachel Smith, Joanne Gray, Suellen Allen and Caroline Homer, presented papers and posters. Lin Lock and Deb Davis were also in attendance. Nicky Leap and Maralyn Foureur also facilitated workshops and Hannah Dahlen was a key note speaker. The Australian College of Midwives also held its Annual General Meeting which was chaired by the National President, Pat Brodie. Many of us also attended a rally on the lawn of Parliament House on the final day of the conference. The rally was convened by Maternity Coalition and called on Commonwealth and State governments to reform maternity services. It was a wonderful conference with lots of energy, inspiration, enthusiasm and a commitment to continually improve midwifery services for women and families. The Centre was certainly Big, Bold and Beautiful!!! Caroline Homer Director: Centre for Midwifery Child and Family Health
