What did you do before you started your course?
The UTS Graduate Diploma in Health Services Management.
What position do you currently hold and where?
I am now a Health Services Manager involved with the development of a clinical service in an Area Health Service.
What motivated you to undertake a research program?
Initially my interest in the management of health services prompted me to undertake the Graduate Diploma. My inquisitiveness regarding the adoption of technology by health professionals prompted me to undertake research in my chosen topic.
Why did you choose UTS?
Upon completion of my Graduate Diploma, I decided to continue my research degree at UTS.
What have you gained from your studies?
Prior to undertaking my coursework program, I was in the administrative/secretarial field in an Area Health Service setting. My enrolment in the coursework program opened opportunities for me and I was hired to undertake a project. My success in the project and in the Graduate Diploma and my enrolment in the research degree further enabled me to enter into the field of management. I am now a Manager involved with the development of a clinical service. The coursework and research programs have given me the confidence and enhanced my skills to draft complex correspondence, for example, writing proposals to secure grant funding.
What is your research topic?
My research topic is ‘Evaluation of web-based IIMS training and health professionals’ experience of web-based IIMS training’ due to complete by end of 2008.
What is it like to be a research student at UTS?
It was and is quite a hectic schedule along with working full-time and other family responsibilities. The Faculty staff are accommodating and understanding of personal situations.
Is there any advice you would give to students who are studying this degree?
The advice I would give to students is to choose a topic that they are passionate about.
What are your professional plans for the future?
At this point in time, my immediate goal is to complete my thesis.
