Graduate Diploma in Midwifery

Cathrine Wade

What did you do before you started your course?
Assistant-in-nursing, enrolled nurse then registered nurse - now I am a student midwife.

What motivated you to study this course?
I have always wanted to be a midwife but life just got in the way. I am 48 years old so there is no time like today to study.

Why did you choose UTS?
UTS offered the program I wished for. Clinical hours working in a tertiary hospital and one day a week at university - and I get paid to do it

What is it like to study at UTS?
Awesome. Very student focused. Lecturers are great at what they do and have the practical/clinical base - you can tell they are passionate about what they teach-this has ignited a passion within me.

What do you most enjoy about your course?
It is 95% hands on.

Is there any advice you would give to students studying this degree?
Don't think about it - do it.

What would you like to do once you complete your degree?
I am going to try and secure employment as a midwife in New Zealand for twelve months and where to after that will be a surprise.
