Bachelor of Nursing (Accelerated Program)
Year of graduation
What did you do before you started your course?
I was an Enrolled Nurse.
What motivated you to study this course?
I originally studied Education before migrating to Australia. As a new migrant I worked as an Assistant Nurse and fell in love with Nursing. After finishing the TAFE Certificate IV in Nursing (Enrolled Nursing program), I decided that being a RN was much better.
Why did you choose UTS?
I chose UTS mainly because of the good recommendation I got from people about the Nursing program there - that it is one of the best around and that UTS graduates have very good reputation with employers.
What did you personally gain from your studies?
Becoming a Registered Nurse has given me a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. Graduating from such a reputable uni as UTS also gives me a sense of pride and confidence knowing that I have been equipped with all the skills - interpersonal, theoretical and clinical- to survive and excel in a dynamic healthcare system. I also met some wonderful people during the course of my training including my lecturers especially Kevin Kellehear, David Holtsbaum, Christopher Gordon, Sandra Rischmiller, Tom Buckley, not to mention the wonderful admin staff.
What was it like to study at UTS?
It was very challenging and intense but very stimulating. The staff (both academic and admin) are approachable and very helpful. The library and clinical rooms are also very resourceful. In short, I felt very supported.
Is there any advice you would give to students who are studying this degree?
You are in one of the best universities offering Nursing - I can guarantee you that. So make the most of the opportunity and resources available at UTS. Work hard, be diligent and give it your best. The result will amaze you!
What position do you currently hold and where?
I am currently undertaking the New Graduate Program at Nepean Hospital in Sydney West Area health service.
What have been your professional achievements?
I graduated with a distinction in the Bachelor of Nursing degree. With the solid training I received in UTS, I have transited very smoothly from a student to a Registered Nurse. I am currently working in a neurosurgical ward and my confidence is growing by the day.
