Biography

Dr Ho Kyong Shon specialises in understanding physico-chemical water treatment processes in water, wastewater and seawater.

His research career focuses on studying advanced water characterisation and its purification. He has also concentrated on the application of membrane based desalination in detailing membrane fouling mechanisms and developing novel desalination technology.

He has published over 120 refereed journal publications including five patents and numerous international awards over the last 12 years.

He is currently supervising six PhD students and two Masters students related to membrane and nanotechnology for water purification. Two students completed their PhD in 2012 and Msc in 2011.

Research interests

Dr Shons main research interests are membrane technologies (forward osmosis, reverse osmosis, pretreatment, life cycle assessment); organic matter characterization; innovative wastewater treatment (new coagulant) and reuse technologies; desalination; advanced oxidation processes (TiO2 photocatalysis); and nanoparticles (nano-zero valent iron and photocatalysts) for water purification.
