Anthony Platts-Baggs

Bachelor of Science in Environmental Forensics

JBS Environmental, Environmental Scientist

What I do now:
My job involves conducting field works for soil and groundwater assessments, remediation and validation for small to very large public and private projects. Along with the major field works, I am currently in the process of completing an environmental site assessment for a small site from an accepted proposal to the final report, which will open the door to project management.

The best part [of the job] is the variety my job provides, it is second to none. I started at a medium sized consultancy, which has nearly doubled in size since I started a little over 18 months ago, so I know there will always be opportunities to further my career. At UTS I learnt invaluable report writing skills and developed my ability to direct my own learning and research, which I have found is a key capability for employers.

The future:
Given the expansion in the company and my strong work ethic, the future looks bright. I can see myself as a senior environmental scientist, progressing to project manager and director when I am confident with each role's responsibilities. There will always be opportunities in the environmental science, policy and related industries with my degree, which gives me confidence for my career development and any future economic decline.
